VALE DON LONG

It is with great sadness that the Mitcham Football Club shares the news of the passing of Don Long, who passed away on 29 September 2026 following a fall and subsequent complications.

Don first walked into Tigerland in the late 1960s as a passionate supporter of the Mitcham Football Club. When his sons, Darren and Geoff, began their junior football journey with Mitcham, Don and his wife Shirley became deeply involved in both our Junior and Senior Clubs.

Don’s contribution to Mitcham Football Club spanned generations. He was a familiar and much-loved figure around the club, known for his friendship, humour, loyalty and, above all, his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

For more than five decades, Don was part of the Mitcham family, creating countless memories and friendships along the way. His contribution and mateship will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our sincere condolences to Don’s children, Darren, Geoff, Julieanne and Sharyn, their partners, his grandchildren and the wider Long family at this incredibly difficult time.

We will miss your mateship, Don. Rest Peacefully.

There will be a private funeral for Don, with a memorial service to celebrate his life to be held at a later date.
